A Yogi’s Holiday Gift Guide with Oprah’s Favorite Things

oprahs-favorite-things-2016-gift-guideThe annual Oprah’s Favorite Things 2016 gift guide is out on Amazon.

I think Holiday gift guides like these are really helpful to figure out what to get for family, friends, and coworkers when you’re stuck for ideas.

Because Oprah promotes healthy living, which is what the yogi lifestyle is about, I thought it would be interesting to go through her list and select the items that I, as someone who’s into healthy and mindful living would be happy to receive.

So with the Yogi spirit in mind, I selected 14 items out of more than 100. If you want to see the comprehensive list, you can do so right here.

1. Oprah and Deepak Reinvention Collection

Give the gift of peace: the best and my favourite gift of all. This is limited edition bundle and includes 3 meditations:

  • Creating Peace from the Inside Out: The Power of Connection
  • Getting Unstuck: Creating a Limitless Life
  • Shedding the Weight: Mind, Body and Spirit

You can read more about my thoughts of this bundle in my previous post Let’s Reinvent Ourselves with Oprah and Deepak Chopra. If you want a detailed review of the series and discover what meditation can do for you then read my other post Create Your Peace with the New Oprah and Deepak Meditation Experience.

2. Coloring Books

The  adult coloring books craze is not ending anytime soon and here’s why: the therapeutic effects of coloring are just really too good for you! Not only you block out negative thoughts, but the process of coloring works similar to meditation as you’re focused in the present moment.

Oprah recommends these 3 coloring books— each of which include a pack of colored pencils (click on the book titles to get more info).

You really can’t go wrong in getting these even for the non-yogi! They’re great to decompress after a long stressful day. Or if you prefer you can even turn coloring into a social event by inviting your friends and drink some wine or Kombucha. Go ahead and color your worries away 😉

3. FitBit Alta

This fitness tracker is water resistant , tracks your sleep, sends you your smartphone notifications, detects any sort of exercise you do, AND is your personal accountability fitness buddy? WOW, What can this thing NOT do? Any health conscious yogi will love this for sure. Check it out here on Amazon for more details

4. Bath Gifts Sets by the Cottage Greenhouse

Have a spa day at home with your friends! Bath sets are great  to unwind or when you’re undergoing a detox. Choose from 3 different sets: Carrot and Neroli; Grapefruit and Blood Orange; and Wild Ginger and Agave to promote rejuvenation and renewal.

5. Village Common Essential Oil Candles

These candles are made with soy, 100%  essential oils and coconut. The result: the Appalachia candle makes you feel like you’re in the great outdoors while you’re indoors! With a choice of 6 scents, you’ll always feel close to Mother Nature even when you’re sheltered at home from the blizzard outside.

6. JB Skin Guru: Peoni Skincare Line

Just because you’re a yogi it doesn’t mean that you’re a hippie and you don’t take care of yourself.

JB Skin Guru is a recently launched Montreal-based skincare brand created by Oprah’s facialist, Jennifer Brodeur. Peoni products like The L’Essence Toner, La Creme (Moisturizer), and Le Nettoyant (Cleanser) are plant-based, vegan and made from organic anti-ageing ingredients. They exclude mineral oil, gluten, parabens, phthalates, dyes, artificial coloring, sodium lauryl sulfate, and other nasty stuff that you don’t want your skin to absorb.oprah-favorite-things-2016-peoni

7. Footnanny Rose Foot Treatment Gift Set

This product has made the Oprah’s Favorites list for three years in a row so it deserves a mention over here as well. Foot care is must when you practice yoga because in yoga tradition the feet are sacred. And also you wouldn’t want to gross out your yogi neighbors who are practicing behind you with your cracked, dead skin and calluses.

8. Soma Sustainable Pitcher & Plant-Based Water Filter

This minimalistic-looking sustainable pitcher with a coconut-shell carbon filter and plant-based casing removes chlorine, unpleasant taste and odor. Also, for each purchase Soma gives back by donating clean drinking water to those in need around the world. Click here to support and raise our glasses to that!

9. The Urban Agriculture Organic Herb Grow Kits

Imagine saving money and growing organic herbs like cilantro, mint, tomato, cucumber, lettuce, and rosemary in the comfort of your home! The kits come with 1 pack of organic seeds, organic soil, and a container made from 100% recycled tea bags.

Have your fruit-infused water to-go all-day and everywhere you go. The bottle is made out of Borosilicate glass and the lids are made of BPA-free plastic. So simple, so practical, and portable. Check it out here.

11. 360 Cookware Kitchen Cutter

Prep your salads efficiently and faster. This innovative kitchen gadget has 5 cutting cones that does the grating, dicing, slicing, and the whole julienne thing for you so you have more time to do more important things… like practice yoga.

12. Philips Avance Airfryer XL

Take healthy eating to a next level with this airfryer where you can fry, steam, roast, bake, or grill with up to 75% less of fat. This is a must for the health-conscious yogi.

13. Glitterville Marbled Plates

Just by looking at these, I get a zen-kind of feeling. I guess it’s because they remind of seashells by the ocean. I’m serious. Take a look. Great for a yogi who’s looking to upgrade their dinnerware to create a zen-like ambiance in their home.

14. Food, Health, and Happiness Cookbook By Oprah Winfrey

Many of us struggle with healthy eating and Oprah’s own challenges with her relationship with food, which is a source of great pleasure and comfort to her, is something we can relate to. In her first cookbook, Oprah shares the recipes that helped her lead a healthier and happier lifestyle.

15.  The Book of Joy: Lasting Happiness in a Changing World

The #1 Bestseller in Amazon’s Personal Transformation and Self Help with a 5/5 star rating is the newest book written by the  Dalai Lama and Archbishop Desmond Tutu when they spent 5 days conversing together.

This was added to the Oprah’s Favorites List after I initially published this post. This is a profound uplifting book discussing how we can find joy and fulfillment during difficult times in our lives.

Many who read the book claim it has deeply inspired them and they ended up buying more copies as gifts for others.

While the Holidays are still more than a month away, it’s never too early to start your Christmas shopping to make sure your packages arrive on time and so that you don’t forget anyone (which would be really embarrassing).

And with the upcoming Black Friday sales coming up, you might as well score some deals and save some cash while you’re at it.

    • Yeah, who says that coloring is JUST for kids! 😉

  2. Furkan Furkan

FitBit Alta definitely seems very good, when my cousin does High interval training he can definitely put it. Although is there any age limitations to wear it? He is 12 and he is really into sports

    • Just checked: to create a Fitbit account a child needs to be at least 13 years old. :/

So I would really go for Oprah and Deepak’s Reinvention Collection and the Food, Health and Happiness cookbook. I love ALL of these! The infused water craze I’m starting to pick up on: simpler than tea, quicker to make and still ALL THE HEALTHY. Oprah really doesn’t fail to bring out some awesome gifts. I love those plates too! They kinda remind me of Mother of Pearl.

    • Oprah’s Favorite Things products always fly off the shelves.

Oh and you’re so right about the Mother of Pearl comparison of the plates!

  6. Tasleem Tasleem

This is a great list. There are actually a few things that I would want for myself like the coloring books!! And the air fryer so that I can eat french fries without regretting it later and the drop bottle looks great too for my mom. You just gave me some great ideas. Thanks for sharing!

    • You’re welcome. It’s so great that we can eat some of our guilty pleasure foods guilt-free (in moderation of course) thanks to the Philips Airfryer. 🙂

  7. Paul Paul

    Hey Vanessa
Great list for some awesome ideas for gifts. I remember seeing her list last year and it was quite helpful when trying to find that gift that is just right for that someone. I’ve been meaning to try out one of the coloring books. Have you ever tried one? If so did you find it to help decrease your stress level?

    • Vanessa Vanessa

Hi Paul. Thanks for stopping by. I haven’t tried those coloring books that Oprah recommends (they are on my wish list though) but I have done some art therapy and I can definitely that it works to decrease stress levels. And the best part is when you finish and you get admire your work of art. I imagine you get the same feeling when you finish coloring with all the pretty colors too.
