power-flex-space-dye-heather-solid-90-degree-by-reflexBrand: 90 Degree by Reflex

Model: Power Flex

Price:  20-25 USD

Rating: 4/5

Best deal to Purchase: Amazon

For this review, I thought it would be a great idea to feature the actual first pair of yoga pants that I ever bought …(drumroll please)… the none other but the Power Flex yoga pants by 90 Degree by Reflex.  Read on to find out what my experience has been with them and whether they are worth your attention.

The Features:

  • Interlock seams
  • 28 inch inseam that stretches to elongate legs
  • Gusset crotch (triangular insert sewn into the crotch)
  • 4 way-stretch
  • Moisture-wicking fabric
  • Key pocket
  • Classic legging fit

Style and Color Selection

The 2 pairs that I own are in the “Heather” style and the colors are a dark purple eggplant color and dark raspberry magenta color. Actually, there are over 30 different colors of these 3 styles on Amazon. You have bright neon colors like coral, watermelon hot pink and aqua as well as darker colors like black, brown grey and army green if neon colors aren’t your thing.

Material, Durability

The Power Flex Yoga Pants are made from synthetic materials and the fabric varies depending the style that you buy.  Here’s the breakdown:

  • Solid: 87% Nylon, 13% Spandex
  • Heather: 47% Nylon, 46% Polyester, 7% Spandex
  • Space Dye: 90% Polyester, 10% Spandex

The material is on the thick side so they pass the bend-over test. You can breathe a sigh of relief knowing your underwear won’t be peeking through the fabric when you’re Downward Dogging.

The 90 Degree by Reflex Power Flex yoga pants are perfect to wear for those chilly gyms and yoga studios but they are too thick to wear for Hot and Bikram yoga (actually, I like to wear shorts there).

The Power Flex Yoga Pants don’t smell and I never see visible sweats spots even after a heavy workout or an intense yoga session. That being said after a sweat session, I do feel the need to shower and change to a clean dry pair as the gusset on the crotch doesn’t absorb sweat very well (this is because of the synthetic material these pants are made of – which is normal). Read my post “The 9 Dangers of Yoga Pants” to find more about the potential risks of wearing sweaty yoga pants for long periods of time.

The care instructions specify to wash the Power Reflex yoga pants in cool water with like colors, lay it flat to air dry, and to never use a heat dryer so that you don’t lose the moisture-wicking properties.

However, I have accidentally threw them in the dryer (several times) and the pants are still functional and haven’t faded in color. They just feel more static and rough than when I first purchased them so be sure to follow the care instructions every single time.

Aha! Now there’s that secret pocket!

Oh and before I forget, the Power Flex Yoga Pants don’t pill at all! That is, no small balls of fabric appear even after heavy use and washing.

The Fit

The 28 inch inseam fits me perfectly. The pants aren’t too long nor too short. These mid-rise yoga pants flatten my stomach without feeling tight and I never have to pull them up. They feel comfortable around the waist (especially important, if like me, you have an hourglass body type). The material is stretchy and even when I gained my heaviest weight, they stayed put and fit well.

Oh and there’s no chafing because the material has a 4-way stretch.

The pocket is on the waistband on the front left side, and it’s so discreet that I actually didn’t know that it existed until inspecting my pants for this review!

The Gusset crotch is great. It allows freedom of movement and a comfortable wearing experience.

One drawback is that the gusset isn’t made of cotton (as the genital area needs to be dry and ventilated to prevent yeast infections) and there are no built-in panties if you want to forego the underwear.

Overall Thoughts

90 Degree by Reflex is a brand to seriously consider if you’re looking for good quality yoga clothing at an affordable price. They’re definitely a way better option than Forever 21’s flare yoga pants for a comparable price which not only were they see-through but on me – they ripped within one year. So I can say that these pants by 90 Degree by Reflex do last!

To summarize, these Power Flex Yoga Pants are durable, comfortable and functional. They caress the body without making you feel constricted and they don’t show your muffin top (if that is a concern for you).

These pants are wonderful for yoga as well as for gym workouts and dance classes as the 4-way stretch gives you much more freedom to do all movements.

Personally, I love these pants so much that I have purchased other models from this brand as well (which I’ll be reviewing as well). I own both of my Heather Power Flex Yoga for 2 years and they are still holding on strong with not one single pill on them.

One thing I want to say is that as comfortable as these 90 Degree by Reflex yoga pants are, they aren’t the type of yoga pants that I would wear to make a fashion statement. The selection of colors is ordinary (basic?) and while you can find some neon colors, fancy crazy prints aren’t their specialty though you will find a few. The fanciest model of the Power Flex yoga pants you can find are the Space Dye model.

What’s absolutely great about the 90 Degree by Reflex brand is that they offer sizes from XS to 3X sizes so you’ll be sure to find the right pair for you.

Thanks for the great info! I have so much trouble finding yoga pants that fit comfortably without being too tight or restrictive. This helps!

    • Hey Trina! I’m glad that this review was useful. Let me know which pair of pants you get!

    Hi Vanessa,
I have been looking for a really great yoga pants for my partner’s birthday. She has mentioned several times (perhaps a hint) that the old sweat pants are not really comfortable for yoga. I can see from your review that now I am on the right track to finding a perfect pair of yoga pants.
    Thanks

    • I totally agree with your partner: sweat pants and yoga definitely don’t mix… AT ALL! 😉

I bought my Yoga pants recently from Elle and the waist band is starting to loosen just after 6 months. Very disappointed with their quality. I think the seam somewhere along the butt is also starting to fall apart.

This is the first time I heard of 90 Degree. Seems like a product worth checking out. Do they have a 3 quarter cut? I prefer those because they are more breathable.

    Thanks!

    • Vanessa Vanessa

Nice to see you again Cathy!

That is very disappointing. I can totally relate to this. You would think that a brand like Elle would have better quality standards. 🙁

90 Degree by Reflex do have 3 quarter cut pants of the same Power Flex mode actually. You can check them out right here.

Interesting review. it’s important to have a good pair of pants for yoga sessions, and the right kind too. You don’t want something too baggy or too short. 90 Degree looks like something really good. I am checking it out now as I read through your article. I like that its has a Gusset crotch and a key pocket.

    • Vanessa Vanessa

The Gusset crotch makes me flexible without worrying that I’ll tear the pants apart during variations of the Warrior Poses. And the key pocket is a really nice touch though I think if you’re carrying car keys you might want to put them in a pouch first and then put the pouch in your pocket.

I always seem to get the pair of Yoga pants that slip down causing baggy crotch! I’ve never heard of 90 Degree pants but I will definitely check them out. Thanks for the info!

I’ve been looking at buying a new pair of yoga pants and came across you page. These look like just what I’m looking for. Definately need moisture wicking and sometimes it’s hard to find a pair that are pile resistant. I think I’m sold on these. Glad I found your page.

    • Vanessa Vanessa

Awesome. I’m glad that that this article was useful. I’ll be featuring more yoga pants made by this brand so stay tuned!

I’ve been in search of a great pair of yoga pants to buy my wife. You’ve completely sold me on these. I’m going to buy a few pair in fact. Based off what I’ve read here I’ve already come to the conclusion my wife will love these. If she does in fact love them. I will be sure to let here know where I got them from and where the seed was planted. Awesome review keep up the good work.

    • Vanessa Vanessa

I’m happy to hear that this review was helpful. My two pairs are still going strong today! I’m sure she won’t be disappointed. Thanks for stopping by James!
