Yoga and Valentine’s Day

yoga-and-valentines-daySo…Valentine’s Day is next week.  Do you know what you’re gifting your spouse, husband, wife, girlfriend, boyfriend? Or do you already have your gift(s) ready but you feel that something is missing?

Ask yourself this question: does giving and receiving fancy chocolates and expensive jewelry make your relationship better and more passionate? Now, has it ever really?

If you’re looking to reignite that spark, or connect on a deeper level in your relationship then I say you start doing yoga together.

Read on to find out how to take things to the next level and connect emotionally, mentally, and physically with your partner like you never knew was possible.

Fly High with Acro Yoga!

Acro yoga is a mix of yoga, acrobatics, and healing arts. Not only you get to increase strength and flexibility and get a workout, but you have tons of fun! There’s so much room for creativity!

Doing Acro Yoga as a couple deepens your relationship as it teaches an understanding of trust, dedication, and celebration. Your sequences can be playful, sexy, and passionate all at the same time! Check out this amazing video of a couple doing Acro Yoga below!

Get Out of Your Comfort Zone With Couples Naked Yoga!

Now that’s quite a way to spice things up!

Contrary to what you’re thinking, there isn’t anything sexual about naked yoga. In my research for you, I found out that the people that attend these sessions aren’t swingers or sexual deviants. In fact, naked yoga has been practiced since ancient times by spiritual groups!

PG-13 version: Naked Couples Yoga Pose

Couples Naked Yoga focuses on creating a conscious non-sexual intimacy between couples.  By being naked you’re both vulnerable, you’re honoring each other and you’re fully opened to each other.

A Couples Naked Yoga class is typically done in candlelight and with a slow sequence to bring couples to the ultimate presence with each other. And while the practice isn’t sexual, it will inevitably happen that men will get turned on and get an erection.  But men shouldn’t worry about seen by others because the room is dark and they will be facing their partner.

What’s very interesting is that instead of projecting this sexual energy to their partner, men are taught to channel this sexual energy to their own body.

Anyway even though these classes are  non-sexual in nature, they still sound like amazing foreplay;  participants reported having AMAZING post-yoga sex right after!

Partner Yoga AKA Couples Yoga

If attending a Naked Yoga Class is too far out for you, you can do partner yoga with your clothes on and still connect with each other!  Check out your local studios for classes or if you prefer practicing from the comfort of your bedroom, try out online partner yoga classes from (read my review here).

Study Tantric Sex

Now this isn’t yoga, but I believe that this will complement your couples yoga practice and enhance intimacy on a spiritual level.

Tantric sex is slow-paced sex that creates a mind to body connection with your partner. It requires that both parties let go physically, emotionally and intellectually for extended periods of time. While reaching orgasm isn’t the goal, it can lead to powerful prolonged orgasms. Contrary to what pop culture says (I’m looking at you Sting!), tantric sex doesn’t have to last for hours on end.

This type of sexual expression is like an art form and it requires deep study.

To sum up my point in this post:

While taking yoga classes together and doing traditional yoga side by side is something that couples can do, this is still an individual experience.  By pursuing something like Acro Yoga,  Naked Couples Yoga, and Partner Yoga (bonus points for studying Tantric sex too!) this will bring a sense of newness and excitement to your relationship for Valentine’s Day and onwards.

Are you considering trying Acro Yoga, Naked Couples Yoga or Partner Yoga? How will you connect on an intimate level with your special someone on Valentine’s Day?

I’m not in a rush to find something for valentines day, however I tend to leave everything at the last second anyway :O So that should come as no surprise. While I have no idea what to get my partner, I will probably get something simple and easy.

I like your idea about using Yoga to ignite the spark again. Although we do not need it, and hopefully won’t need to in the future either, I’ll definitely keep this in mind.

Great article, I know you’ll help hundreds, if not thousands of people with it so good job there.

    • Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed this post.

So I have really never done yoga before, it just seems so uncomfortable. I mean I’m not even flexible at all. But then again if it helps to relieve stress and get you in a better mood it makes sense to do it. What made you get into yoga, and how long have you been doing it?

    • Hey Alex! Thanks for stopping by. Simply doing yoga will make you more flexible through time. You just have to practice.
It’s a myth that to do yoga means that you already need to be flexible and be able to do crazy poses that make you look like a pretzel. For starters you can try Hatha Yoga, or Restorative or Iyengar Yoga. You can check out the differences in this article.

I’ve been doing yoga since 2012 and I don’t do crazy poses nor headstands (yet)! I choose to do this practice for inner peace and for the other health benefits. For more details about my story, you can read about it in my About Me page.

Wow! Up to today I have not heard of naked couples yoga…it sounds fun.

So I have tried yoga before and I am not at the level that I would like to be yet…mainly because I don’t feel flexible enough…do you have any suggestions? I do it once a week…

    • Hello Udoh! Doing yoga once a week is not enough to become more flexible. To see progress in that area, you would need to do it at least 3 times a week. Have you considered adding Hot Yoga or Bikram Yoga to your regular practice? Doing yoga in a heated room really helps to stretch your muscles.
